Kariéru popového kráľa začal v skupine Jackson 5, onedlho odštartoval Michael aj sólovú kariéru. S albumom Off the wall prekonal hranicu desiatich miliónov predaných platní. Vrcholom Jacksonovej kariéry boli osemdesiate roky, kedy sa jeho album Thriller stal najpredávanejším albumom v histórii pop-music a získal tri ocenenia American Music Awards.
